Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center

“Chicago is an AA town, so we have a strong AA program,” says Daniel Hostetler, executive director of Above and Beyond Family Recovery Center in downtown Chicago, and himself a product of AA. But, he adds, Above and Beyond targets clients with a “radically different” rehab philosophy. The service is free of charge and emphasizes compassion, finding purpose and meaning in life, and goal-setting. Above and Beyond offers logotherapy, acupuncture, yoga, rage reduction, and a housing and employment case manager. Founder Bryan Cressey, a Chicago venture capital pioneer, said the agency follows a therapy path pioneered by Dr. Stanton Peele: “He was the first to forcefully advocate for the many precepts we follow, including healing with love and with understanding, not shaming those who relapse.”
