My Pantry Express, a program developed by Northern Illinois Food Bank, addresses the needs of individuals facing hunger by providing an alternative way to acquire nutritious food at no cost instead of at a traditional food pantry. The program reduces physical and emotional barriers for food-insecure neighbors by offering a private, online shopping experience targeted to serve individuals unable to use a traditional food pantry, with convenient, local pickup locations and times. This innovative model, the first of its kind in the Feeding America food bank network, replicates retail shopping trends and brings 40 years of food banking into the 21st century to fit more seamlessly into the lives of those experiencing food insecurity.
