Glaze is a system designed to protect human artists by disrupting style mimicry attacks that seek to replace human artists with models trained on their own artwork. At a high level, Glaze works by understanding the AI models that are training on human art, and using adversarial machine learning algorithms, computing a set of small changes to artworks, such that it appears dramatically different to the AI model, while remaining largely unchanged to human eyes. Glaze has been downloaded over 1.3 million times globally, and thousands of artists use WebGlaze, the free Glaze web service. Glaze has received multiple awards, including USENIX Internet Defense Prize, Distinguished paper award, and TIMES Magazine special mention for Best Inventions of 2023.
