World Bicycle Relief is a nonprofit organization providing access to independence and livelihood through The Power of Bicycles. World Bicycle Relief was founded in 2005 by SRAM Corporation in response to the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Since then, the organization has put over 90,000 specially designed, locally assembled, rugged bicycles into the hands of students, healthcare workers and entrepreneurs in Southeast Asia and across Africa. In 2010, Barron’s ranked World Bicycle Relief number 12 among The World’s 25 Most Effective Philanthropies, putting the organization in the company of The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The Skoll Foundation and Oprah’s Angel Network.
